Contraception & Emergency Contraception

For advice about different methods of contraception, please make an appointment to see your GP.  You could also visit a local Family Planning Clinic.

Coils

A regular clinic runs on Wednesday mornings where we fit the intrauterine device (IUD) known as the coil. Your GP will need to refer you for this. We also conduct coil checks and removals at this session.

Coil thread checks can be conducted by any of our practice nurses during her regular clinics. Please telephone your usual surgery to make an appointment.

You can also attend a clinic in Hemel Hempstead to have coil fitting / removal or implants.

This service is open to all Hertfordshire registered patients and you can self refer by calling 0345 300 8090. For more information click here.

Implants

We also offer a contraceptive implant (Nexplanon) fitting service.  Your GP will need to refer you for this.

Emergency Contraception

Emergency contraception can be obtained free of charge from any Family Planning Clinic or Sexual Health Clinic, and from many NHS walk-in centres.

Girls and women aged 13 to 24 can obtain the emergency contraceptive pill free of charge from many local pharmacies, including Manor Pharmacy in Radlett and Crown Pharmacy in Shenley.

The emergency pill can also be purchased from most pharmacies by anyone aged 16 or over for about £25.
